CLASSES
Karyukai currently offers 3-4 training sessions per week for adults and children. Indoor and outdoor classes are offered. Our senior classes can be joined via zoom when you can not physically participate. Training 2-3 times a week is highly recommended.
VALUE OF TRADITION
We value traditional ideas of discipline and etiquette.
At Karyukai, we follow certain traditional manners in order to promote cultural understanding and respect in our general behaviour.
For example...
- Bowing at the dojo
- Shoes off and align them at the entrance
- Cleaning the floor at the start and end of the class.
- Punctuality is vital and wait for permission to join the class when you could not arrive on time.
You will also learn many Japanese terminologies. Two very first things you will learn are...
Greetings : "Oss Sensei"
Counting : Itch,ni,san, she,go,lok, shtch, hatch,ku,ju" (phonetically written here)
It may sound strict but learning these rules are actually fun and exciting!!

KARATE COMPETITIONS
Although our focus is strongly on manner, etiquette and discipline side of traditional Karate, we recognize the benefits of competition for everyone. The excitements and thrills of competition make students blossom enormously, specially children. There is once a year compulsory attendance of the state competition and we also encourage and offer opportunities for members to enter numbers of other competitions.
There are great numbers of benefits for people of all ages. Dealing with their nerves, goals are easy to set, training hard to reach their best potential, accepting wins and defeats, making new friends and excitements of receiving medals! We also teach students to maintain polite manners at the competition. Showing respect to their opponents, arriving on time and supporting their team mates are very important aspects of Karate sportsmanship.

KARATE SEMINARS
Every year, we have at least one Japanese head quarter instructor visiting Melbourne to run a seminar. It is one of the rare opportunities to meet and train under Karate legends of the world. It is compulsory for all Karyukai members to attend and witness the standard we strive to achieve.
There are also annual national seminars held at different states in Australia. This offers one week training and competition with Japanese head quarter instructors and SKIA national senior instructors. The national competition is open to competitors of all ages.
We also attend international seminars in Japan (and other oversea locations) from time to time.

CAMP and PARTIES
Karyukai offers camp (Gasshuku), outdoor training, beach training, picnics, film nights and other social gatherings to all members. We run annual summer camp in December. Outdoor trainings are organized during the summer school holidays in January. Karyukai offers a great community both for students and their families. We get to know each other and form bonds through these activities.
